Eternal Delyria is a melodic death metal band from Switzerland. Founded in 2011, the band is relatively young. Their style can be described as melodic death metal. Their latest and first full-length album “Letting Go of Humanity” was released last year.

The album’s sound and style is interesting for sure. There is a mix from all the genres raging from melodic death metal to symphonic metal with a touch from gothic and black metal elements. This aspect might sound interesting in the beginning; encompassing different styles within a record is quite refreshing and it creates a diversity which reaches to a broad audience. However, in this case, I felt that although the band holds potential, their sound is not mature yet. In this sense, I think that the sound and the band’s style in general do not really have a certain structure and composition generally. The songs themselves might be nicely composed and structured but overall, the record is sadly not promising.

When I look deeper into the elements and genres blended within this sound, I think that the band can eliminate the symphonic/gothic elements in their style and move forward with their harsh and ‘dark’ sound, which is reflected in the guitar riffs and the vocals. I especially found the harsh vocals quite interesting (and similar to the style of Alissa White-Gluz, the front woman of Arch Enemy) and even the highlight of the record. So the band definitely needs to have a certain structure within their sound in the future albums and go on with that certain style instead of throwing in every element throughout the record.

“Letting Go of Humanity” might not be a good start for the band I am sure that as their sound improves and evolves, the band might show more potential. Looking forward to what they have for us in the future!
