Wolves Den is a German black metal band. Formed in 2014, the band consists of 2 former Equilibrium band members, one of them being the former vocalist Helge Stang. Although the band is relatively young, they have been making themselves known in festivals and gigs throughout Germany; the band has become popular not only among the old Equilibrium fans but also among the fans of this genre!

The band has released their latest record “Deus Vult” (Latin word for “God wills it”) in 2015. I normally do not review records that have been released a while ago but after seeing the band in Dark Troll festival this year, I was quite impressed with them so I decided to make an exception!

“Deus Vult” features some impressive black metal riffs and brutal vocals, which manages to catch the listener’s attention from the beginning! Although the record is not the typical ‘raw’ black metal one, the vocals and the drums (from time to time) give us that raw atmosphere. The guitars, on the other hand, are quite polished and show us the diverse and melodic side of the album! In this sense, the record is brutal but also melodic and catchy; I am sure that the listeners will want to hear the record again and again to hear a certain guitar riff, brutal vocals or the blasting drums!
A highlight in the record is the use of choruses/atmospheric elements in songs like “Deus Vult” and “Schwarzes Firmament”; this aspect made the record much more fascinating and even a bit diverse in my opinion. I even thought to myself that the band could have gone a bit further with the atmospheric approach by using more synths or orchestral elements I think that this aspect definitely fits the band’s style!

“Deus Vult” marks the great start for the band! I am looking forward to what the band will come up with in the future. If you have a chance to see them live, don’t miss it!
